Our House, In The Middle Of Our Street

Well, we did it.
We found our house!
It wasn't the mid-century architectural gem I was originally pursuing, but it is a mid-century treasure in its own right.
And cheap! That is the best part.
(Seriously, if you ever wanted to move to Florida...the house prices are back to where they were 8 years ago, before the boom. It's crazy.)
I had to post a picture of the house in its current state. I'll post updates as they happen.
Doesn't everyone love seeing before/after pics? Isn't that why we watch House Hunters? Maybe that's just me.
I'm always surprised that people share so much of themselves on their blogs, but for some reason they hardly ever share their homes.
If you want to know about someone, look in their window.
No wait, that's illegal.

But as for me, I'll leave the blinds open for now.

I Was Zapped By The Lucky Super Rainbow

I mentioned before that I have been on a house hunt. Big time. The house prices are so low right now that we couldn't pass up the opportunity to find a bigger home. (side note: if you ever wanted to move to Florida, now is the time! I'm talking about houses from $59,000!)

We love the mid-century modern design, particularly the Sarasota School of Architecture designs from the 50's/60's. Of course, those homes are way out of our price range so I just go to open houses when they come up and dream. I find myself staring longingly at the house until the Realtor feels uncomfortable (just kidding.)

So on my quest - which is really me driving around endlessly whenever Rio falls asleep in the car - I would scope out abandoned houses. I would return later with an accomplice to investigate further. Once or twice we found ourselves peeking in a window at an occupant of the house, but only once or twice. heh heh

Then I was zapped with incredible luck. I found a house that looks like a wreck from the outside, but inside I could see a definite design. I tracked down the owner (who has moved out of the country) and found her to be the most gracious person I've met in a while. She agreed to aid us in our quest to make this house our home. And then she threw a little cherry on top - she told me that this is in fact a Seibert home (Sarasota School of Architecture) and has the original plans and drawings. WHA???!!!?? GAK!!!!!

Now we'll see if my luck continues...will the bank accept our offer?

Stay tuned.

Keep Looking Up

This time of year is the worst. The trees are bare and ominous, the ground is dull and lifeless, and the sun is a fickle companion. People need motivation to find joy in all of this funk.

I usually give myself a project that requires a fair amount of time and effort to carry me through. By the time I finish my project, whaddya know?! It's spring! Currently, this is a house hunt. I'll take on any project though, and I often find myself working on other people's projects. I actually like to research and work to find whatever it is that needs finding. (I would have loved being a detective except for the dead or maimed bodies and irrational fear of death at the hands of another.)

I'm also working on potty training my little ray of sunshine. It's been much more fun than I thought it would be. She makes me laugh every time she peers over that little belly to see if she's doing it right. And she finds sitting on the potty and all the noises I make (trying to describe what we should be hearing) pretty hilarious.

Finally, I'm working on planning my future sister-in-love's bridal shower. I get to indulge that other side of the coin where I would have enjoyed being an event planner. How fun!

I'll keep looking up; keep looking ahead and enjoying what I find along the way.
